Last Hoorah Summary Profiles

With an ever-growing membership, this section of our glorious Technicolor (said with American twang) website, seeks to tell you who’s who and what’s what, about the  players, their ambitions, and their records. So, in alphabetical order, here are the currently registered members; follow the links for more details:

David Aspey

DA, aka Eddie "the Eagle" Aspey, the Doctor, DA, Herr Durchsprung vor Teknik, is the engine room that drives our esteemed society forward with his ever-increasing buffoonish obsession with all things golf. He is now the main contributor of the minutes that record for posterity the highs and lows of our outings, event organiser and general golfing guru. For his full profile, click here. He posted the first Hoorah Eagle at Dale Hill in 2006 and has recently followed it up with "a crowd-pleaser" Eagle 3 at the 18th at Seaford Head accompanied by the now obligatory "chicken dance". Paul Barnes

PB, Paul "Samsonite" Barnes, aka Valise, earned his nickname in pre-history when in a doubles match his poor partner famously had to "carry him all the way".  A regular wearer of the pink beret for countless feats of buffoonery, including the infamous "curry-spoofing incident" of 2005, his golf results have occasionally suffered from errant driving despite his now unquestioned prowess at recovery and the old art of "up and down".  His newly found re-acquaintance with the fairways of Sussex, and renewed interest in regular golf  puts him right back in the frame.  For his personal combined stats, click here

Andy Boyle

Cap'n Panatella joined in early 2009 as competition for his fellow club captain MD; thrown into the deep end of the Society's obsession with championship tee-boxes and weather warning conditions on tough courses, and more recently thrown off by a niggling shoulder injury, AB has yet to find his best form, but the best is surely to come. Gar Cheung

Gar "Porky" Cheung joined the Hoorah circus in 2010; yet to find his best form at the Hoorah but surely a threat  for 2011. The Society took full advantage of his hospitality at the hosted the 2011AGM in January! Stats posted here

Tony Dalby

Tony "the Tiger" Dalby is another 2009 recruit lured in with promises of wine, women and song. With his golf still very much in the "under development" stage, this wild cat is still searching for the big "game" but all the ladies say he's grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat. Tony's personal stats are here.

Michael Davis

MD, the "Bonecrusher", aka the Taffster, has sent many an unsuspecting noob running to the nearest orthopaedic surgeon with his vice like handshake; the older and wiser members now give him "the fist" instead.  MD joined Hoorah in 2008, and though initially he suffered on some of the sterner tests that the members set themselves he was the outstanding drinker and eater of strange foods for 2008.  Early 2010 saw an outstanding start on the course with back-to-back wins before high-level ECA duties intervened; but be warned all ye limp-wristed ones: the Bonecrusher is back, and has already  posted a 43 pointer in the opening salvo in the 2011 HOOM.   Lee Drewett

"Lofty" Lee joined the ranks initially as a tourist on the Hackers outings to Bournemouth (2007) and Cornwall (2008), guested in the Hoorah at Knole Park via Nick "Junior" Osler in 2008 and 2009 before becoming a stalwart on the 2010 circuit.  Regular golf  catapulted Lofty up the 2010 HOOM, surely a contender for 2011.

Paul East

The old guard of the Last Hoorah Golf Society, established back in the misty annals of time (2004 to be precise), welcomed Paul “Easto” East, aka the Thong with a Song, into the fold at the back end of 2006; his karaoke version of Frank Sinatra’s "New York, New York" whilst wearing the now famous (but sadly lost) red thong has passed into Franco-English folk lore, and is a popular ice-breaker at all fashionable parties in the Le Touquet district.  He opened his account in Hoorah with a win at Pyecombe including a memorable eagle on the 18th and quickly established himself as a hot contender. After near misses in 2007 and 2008, he got over the winning line in 2010 to take the red Jacket. Pound for pound, the longest hitter  on the tour, possibly in the world. Secure in his 2010 glory, Easto has announced he is on "garden leave" in 2011. Hear The Thong With a Song. For his personal combined stats, click here

Alan Fry

Inaugurated in 2008 Anal has been blighted by other commitments, and has missed too many games to be a contender, but hopefully will be back in circulation soon. Personal stats here

Patrick Kneath

PK joined in 2008 but has suffered a number of set backs "off the field", the latest being a sudden rush of "man-flu" to keep him out of the 2011 opener at Seaford Head; hopefully he will be back in the fold soon. Personal stats here

  Iain Miller

Iain also joined full time in 2010 and has consistently been in the mix, bringing his sublime swing, and his wily Highland ways to Hoorah; our feats of links courses should suit him in 2011. Stats here

Nicholas Mukherjee

Nick "Maharaja" Mukherjee, aka the "Snakecharmer", aka "e2" set the Hoorah bandwagon rolling at the start of the 2005 with an early win, and his classy swing looked sure to make him a front-runner in the HOOM, but his various attempts to steal a lead on the pack by fine-tuning the swing with some coaching have always mysteriously coincided with a slip in form, and he has punched under his weight ever since. He did find inspiration at the par four 14th hole on the West Course at Royal Ashdown, driving the green with his 3 wood "the beast" and sinking the eagle putt (a Hoorah 2nd) to considerable hooping and hollering. A fat cigar and generous gulp of Eddie's flask put paid to his hopes in 2006. Off-course issues have hitherto dampened his prospects of wearing the Red Jacket but surely these will soon be behind him. Could 2011 be the year of the Maharaja? For more insight into what makes the Maharaja tick, check out the INTERVIEW conducted in June 2007. For NM's personal combined stats, click here

  Phil Mann

A few appearances in 2009 / 2010 whet PM's appetite for more Hoorah tom-foolery, and 2011 has seen PM announce his full-time arrival on the Hoorah scene with an astounding 46 points at Seaford Head. With wins also in two other society events already this year, can PM maintain this rich vein of form to challenge for the coveted Red Jacket. Stats now up and running here

Les Newman

"Legendary" Les Newman, so-named for his rare appearances back in 2008 / 9, became a stalwart in 2009 and his trophy shelf already boasts the Big Bird trophy as reward for his regular birdie tally; a near miss in 2010 leaves him hot favourite in 2011 with Easto on self-imposed "garden leave".  Lezza burrowed his way into Hoorah affections on the Le Touquet 07 trip with his "Billy The Hampster" impression. The censors sadly won't let your webweister insert a link here. Stats here

Harvey Osler

A self-proclaimed outsider at the start in 2005, HO, general "Stato" and Auditor,  became the proud wearer of the inaugural HOOM 2005 Red Jacket after sneaking over the winning line on the final green at the East Sussex National;  with further wins in 2007, and 2008 (tied), and runner up in 2006 and 2009, his lust for competition always keeps him the the mix - notwithstanding that his swing was once described by a member of another society (whose name we shall not mention though DA is now the venerable captain of that society, and the member in question is known to suffer from "small man's disease") as "the ugliest swing in Sussex ";  oh well , being as ugly didn't stop Ashley Cole getting a hot wife.  HO joined the elite "Eagle Club" in 2009 after stiffing a drive at the short par 4 11th hole at West Hove. HO's combined stats can be found here. Go to profile here

James Tierney

Another 2009 recent recruit to the Royal but not so Ancient Last Hoorah Golf Society, the Warlord has brought his own personal battle cry into the arena. Mr Brown's "world recession" put aid to 2010 but, with his reawakened "Purple Headed War Hammer",  the Warlord is back.  JT combined stats here
